The dramatic images featured in the Storm Force Photography collection were caught opportunistically while the photographer, Mick Mackey, spent many weeks at sea studying the behaviour and migratory patterns of the seabird populations that routinely inhabit the Irish offshore waters.

The majority of images were shot in remote offshore locations that rarely encounter human activity: Rockall, the Hatton Bank, the Porcupine Seabight, the Goban Spur.

This unique collection of over 600 photographs highlights the harsh conditions that constantly confront those who seek to eek out an existence in this unforgiving environment. Each image focuses on the extreme climatic conditions constantly experienced in the harsh offshore Atlantic Ocean habitat and on those animals that have evolved to survive the incessant barrage of Atlantic gales.

The entire collection evokes the overwhelming beauty that is to be found in nature, even when nature itself is at its most violent & tempestuous best. Mick’s distinctive portfolio has been described as “....a striking merger of art and photography, which captures aspects of the harsh oceanic habitat in stunning detail” - Cork Vision Centre, 2008.
